Verket ”The Radical Ally” (Den radikala allierade) presenterar den visuella och textbaserade undersökning som ligger till grund för Bouchra Khalilis film Twenty-Two Hours (Tjugotvå timmar)från 2018.

Fokus ligger på författaren Jean Genets två månader långa turné i USA 1970 tillsammans med Svarta pantrarna. Turnén inleddes i Cambridge, Massachusetts, där Genet höll sitt första tal på amerikansk mark till stöd för partiet. Svarta pantrarna var ett amerikanskt radikalt politiskt parti för svarta, som var verksamt mellan 1966 och 1982. Vilka minnen och spår finns kvar av deras historia idag?

I ”Twenty-Two Hours” utforskar två unga afroamerikaner från Boston, Quiana Pontes och Vanessa Silva – 50 år senare – hur Genet bjöds in av partiet till USA och hans resa i solidaritet med Svarta pantrarna. Här framträder minnen och motståndsstrategier som Svarta pantrarna använde sig av i sin kamp mot rasism och ojämlika levnadsvillkor.

The work ”The Radical Ally” presents the visual and textual research that forms the basis of the film Twenty-Two Hours from 2018 by Bouchra Khalili.

It focuses on the writer Jean Genet and his two-month tour of the United States in 1970 with the Black Panther Party. The tour began in Cambridge in Massachusetts, where Genet delivered his first speech on American soil in support of the Party. The Black Panther Party was a radical Black political organisation in the United States, active between 1966 and 1982. What memories and traces of its history remain today?

In ”Twenty-Two Hours”, two young African Americans from Boston, Quiana Pontes and Vanessa Silva, explore – 50 years later – Genet’s invitation to the United States by the Party and his journey in solidarity with the Black Panthers. Through their investigation, memories emerge alongside the strategies of resistance employed by the Black Panther Party in its struggle against racism and social inequality.

”The Radical Ally” has been presented both as a 36-page newspaper publication and, as here, in the form of a wall poster.
