Malmö Konsthall opens its summer exhibition with Roman Signer with a combined opening and summer party on Friday, June 2 at 19. Welcome to an evening of art, performance and music. Restaurant SMAK’s bar is open all evening.

In a career spanning over fifty years, Roman Signer has redefined what sculpture can be by working with materials in various time-based processes. Signer’s work has come to represent a distinct style within the genre of sculpture, and he is now considered one of the leading representatives of process and conceptual art. This exhibition at Malmö Konsthall is Signer’s first major solo exhibition in Sweden and Scandinavia. Read more about the exhibition here.

Co-host of the party is the art and culture association PLX, which is responsible for the program. Since 2006, PLX has created performances, installations and festivals both in Sweden and internationally, and annually organizes the esteemed PLX festival in the Blekinge archipelago.

19–21 Opening in the presence of the artist Roman Signer

Welcome speeches & introduction by Mats Stjernstedt, Director of Malmö Konsthall, and Inger Lindstedt, Chair of The Society for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Green Parks in Malmö. Roman Signer activates the work Sandsäule (Column of Sand, 2008).

21–00 Music, performance & bar

The exhibition hall closes at 9 p.m. and the party continues in restaurant SMAK and in the courtyard until midnight. Music & performance with Francesca Burattelli, Richard Krantz and others.

Italian-born Francesca Burattelli has established herself on the Danish music and art scene in recent years with her distinctive experimental pop music-performances. Burattelli’s unique vocals are the mainstay of her electronic universe, which embraces pop, rap and orchestral elements.

The Swedish artist Richard Krantz is interested in language, loneliness and humor. He often works with ideas that spring from universal and personal everyday considerations and take the form of absurd performances, paradoxical text works and large-scale sculptures that could be taken from “real life”.
