Welcome to the opening of Otobong Nkanga’s autumn exhibition on Friday, 9 October at 7 pm. Co-hosting the opening is the Institute for Degrowth Studies.
Otobong Nkanga was born in Kano (Nigeria) in 1974 and is now based in Antwerp (Belgium). In her artistic practice, she explores issues relating to mining and the use of the earth’s resources, as well as the body in its relationship to space and the earth.
“I dreamt of you in colours”, which is Nkanga’s first retrospective exhibition in Scandinavia, brings together works from the 1990s up until today, and includes a multitude of expressions. During the opening, the artist will activate one of the works, Solid Maneuvers (2015), through a performance with the same title. The work incorporates, among other materials, salt, makeup and minerals, and explores the impact of mining on the landscape and the environment. At the intersection between choreography and ritual, Nkanga highlights the tension between physical effort, collective memory and the violence of production gestures.

The Institute for Degrowth Studies is a non-profit organization founded with the aim of spreading knowledge about degrowth, creating and/or supporting activities aligned with degrowth, providing opportunities for our members to learn more about degrowth, and fostering collaboration both locally and internationally with other degrowth groups and organizations that share similar values.
Degrowth may be broadly described as an umbrella term that critiques the centrality of economic growth in contemporary societies and embraces various alternatives for ecological sustainability, social justice and human flourishing.
DJ VV has been moving between genres and musical worlds for over ten years, guided by a deep curiosity for rhythm, texture and feeling. Her sets are fluid and intuitive, drawing from a wide range of sounds and influences to create an experience that moves freely between the unexpected and the familiar.
Rather than being defined by a specific genre, DJ VV is interested in the feeling music can evoke the tension, energy and moments of connection that unfold through sound. Her selections are instinctive and dynamic, shaped by the space, the audience and the moment.
Beyond the booth, she is the founder of ROOTED, a multidisciplinary cultural platform dedicated to creating space for music, creativity, community and a more diverse cultural scene.
