Welcome to the opening of Otobong Nkanga’s exhibition on Friday 9 October at 19:00.

Otobong Nkanga was born in Kano (Nigeria) in 1974 and is now based in Antwerp (Belgium). In her artistic practice, she explores issues relating to mining and the use of the earth’s resources, as well as the body in its relationship to space and the earth.

“I dreamt of you in colours”, which is Nkanga’s first retrospective exhibition in Scandinavia, brings together works from the 1990s up until today, and includes a multitude of expressions. During the opening, the artist will activate one of the works, Solid Maneuvers (2015), through a performance with the same title. The work incorporates, among other materials, salt, makeup and minerals, and explores the impact of mining on the landscape and the environment. At the intersection between choreography and ritual, Nkanga highlights the tension between physical effort, collective memory and the violence of production gestures.
