Welcome to a concert featuring two of Scandinavia’s leading string musicians! The evening is presented in collaboration with Musik i Syd Malmö.
The concert opens with two works for solo instruments. Andreas Brantelid performs Benjamin Britten’s deeply emotional “Suite No. 3 for Solo Cello”, austere and melancholic, incorporating Russian folk melodies and Orthodox church music. In contrast, Michael Germer brings French virtuosity to Eugène Ysaÿe’s “Sonata in E minor for Solo Violin”, one of the most demanding works in the violin repertoire. The concert then erupts into an intense dialogue in Maurice Ravel’s dense, rhythmic “Sonata for Violin and Cello”, which, despite being written for just two instruments, creates a sound world that is almost orchestral.

Swedish-Danish cellist Andreas Brantelid (b. 1987) is one of the most sought-after cellists of his generation, internationally acclaimed for his expressive musicianship, in which the music does more than simply sound – it speaks, dances and sings. He made his debut at the age of 14 with the Royal Danish Orchestra in Copenhagen and has won several major international prizes, including the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Vienna in 2006. Today, he performs around the world with leading orchestras, is a regular guest at international festivals, and also serves as a lecturer in cello at Malmö Academy of Music.
Michael Germer (b. 2002) is a Danish violinist regarded as one of Scandinavia’s most promising young musical talents. He made his solo debut at DR Koncerthuset in 2021 and has since won several major prizes, including Danish Radio’s P2 Talent Award. Most recently, he won second prize at the Singapore International Violin Competition 2026. During the 2026–2027 season, he will perform as a soloist with symphony orchestras in Lyon, Odense and Aalborg, among others, performing violin concertos by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. His playing is characterised by musical and technical brilliance, artistic maturity and a warm, communicative tone.
