Opening: Speaking Volumes

A warm welcome to kick-off the art season with us at the opening of the group exhibition Speaking Volumes! The exhibition brings to light six unique artistic practices from the USA, UK and Sweden, and is a celebration of the supported art studio community.
Participating artists are David Cheung (SE), Alan Faulds (UK), Mattias Johansson (SE), Maweuna Kattah (UK), Nicole Storm (US) and Monica Valentine (US). Their distinct visual languages each reveal different ways of experiencing the world, and our shared experience of being human. One aspect that unites these artists is their access to supported studios — communities that enable artists with disabilities to develop their singular creative practices. The exhibition is curated by Lucy Smalley, Malmö Konsthall.

With dazzling collages of hip hop–soaked house, techno, and disco, Johanna Ritscher moves effortlessly between genres and contexts. She began as one half of the sparkling DJ duo Collabo Queens in the mid-2000s, shaking up Sweden’s club scene with her groundbreaking club night Collabo Club (Inkonst, Malmö). She is also behind club concepts such as SYRRAN (Femtastic) and STØK, ranging from Copenhagen’s Kødbyen district to Under Bron in Stockholm.
Gritty festivals and early mornings in Berlin have been interspersed with ambitious productions of mixes, sound installations, conferences, and parties for companies such as IKEA, Massive, and Mercedes. The nightlife has taken her across Sweden and half of Europe, to New York, LA, and Rio de Janeiro. She has toured with artists (including Gnucci) and shared the stage with acts such as Diplo, TNGHT, DJ Marky, Dillon Francis, and many others—always with the bass as the common thread.
