Special guided tour: Sarah Nakiito

11.3 & 18.3 2023

Artist Sarah Nakiito holds a special guided tour of the exhibition FLIGHT. Sarah Nakiito (Mengo, Uganda) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Malmö. She mainly works with textile art, but also costume design and performance. With a focus on topics such as colonial legacies, mental illness, escapism, blackness, queerness and play Sarah Nakiito wants to explore decolonizing practices and work in contexts where we create a wider language for artistic practices.

Sarah Nakiito is a co-founder of the separatist art collective SYSTERIA and a contributor to the handbook Handlingsplan för att motverka ett segregerat konstfält, (Action plan to counter a segregated art field) from 2020, Art Lab Gnesta. She is responsible for the costume design for the performance Glömskans arkiv (The Archive of Forgetting), which will be shown at Malmö Konsthall this spring. Sarah Nakiito has also made costumes for the dance performance LOCUS for Riksteatern premiering in September and she will participate in the performance FIGUREN at the Bastionen (Malmö) in March.
