SUMMARY:Cyanotype workshop at Rosengård Library
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nCyanotype workshop at Rosengård Library\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome and make cyanotypes with artist Johanna Schartau. Cyanotype is an old photographic developing process from the 19th century. \n\n\n\nDrop-in; the workshop is free and open to everyone over 9 years old. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe create photograms/photographic images by placing objects on treated watercolor paper\, which is then exposed outdoors and developed in water. While the image dries\, we prepare a book cover with text\, collage\, or drawing\, into which the image is later pasted. You can bring your own small object to create an image with\, but there are also objects available to borrow. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

SUMMARY:Curator’s tour of CC Hennix
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nCC Hennix\, Lincos (For Intergalactic Communications). Photo: Michael Yu.\n\n\nCurator’s tour of CC Hennix\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet one of the exhibition’s curators for a special tour of the CC Hennix exhibition. Lawrence Kumpf and art center director Mats Stjernstedt will talk about Hennix’s artistic practice\, which combines art\, mathematics\, and spirituality into a unique whole. The tour is in English and replaces Saturday’s public showing. \n\n\n\nCC Hennix is primarily known as a composer\, but the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the breadth of her work in the form of painting\, sculpture\, and sound installations. Although Hennix remained relatively unknown for much of her life\, the renewed interest in her work has brought attention to an extraordinary output that helps expand the conversation about minimalism—both in music and visual art—as well as discussions on spirituality\, mathematics\, and gender identity.\n \n\n\n\nRead more about the exhibition here. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat: TourWhen: Saturday\, February 7\, 2:00–3:00 PMWhere: Exhibition Hall \n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

SUMMARY:Finnish-language guided tour of CC Hennix
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nInstallation by CC Hennix (photo: Michael Yu) and a portrait of the artist Matti Sumari.\n\n\n\nFinnish-language guided tour of CC Hennix\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome to a Finnish-language guided tour of the CC Hennix exhibition. The tour is led by artist Matti Sumari. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition highlights Catherine Christer Hennix’s visual and sound art. Hennix is primarily known as a musician and composer of drone music\, but her artistic practice extends far beyond music. The exhibition\, which encompasses her early series of works\, includes installations\, sculptures\, drawings\, and sound works.\n \n\n\n\nThe tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. \n\n\n\n// \n\n\n\nTervetuloa CC Hennixin näyttelyn suomenkieliselle opastetulle kierrokselle taiteilija Matti Sumarin kanssa. \n\n\n\nNäyttely tuo esiin Catherine Christer Hennixin kuva- ja äänitaiteen. Hennix on tullut tunnetuksi ennen kaikkea muusikkona ja drone-musiikin säveltäjänä\, mutta hänen taiteilijuutensa ulottuu paljon musiikkia laajemmalle. Näyttely kattaa hänen varhaiset teossarjansa ja sisältää installaatioita\, veistoksia\, piirustuksia ja ääniteoksia. \n\n\n\nOpastus kestää noin 45 minuuttia. \n\n\n\nRead more about the exhibition here. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Guided tourWhen: Sunday\, 8 February at 3 pmWhere: Exhibition Hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nThe Occult Diary – slideshow by Byrå\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bureau for Investigative Immateriality (Byrå för undersökande immaterialitet) presents a slideshow combining text and photography\, inspired by August Strindberg’s The Occult Diary. The Bureau is a duo consisting of the artist Marie Andersson and the writer Niklas Qvarnström\, based in Malmö.\n \n\n\n\nAfter years of pursuing Strindberg’s restless spirit in Paris\, Lund\, and Malmö\, the Bureau makes a lightning visit to Malmö Konsthall with a slideshow recently shown at the Strindberg Museum in Stockholm. Along two parallel timelines—then and now—the more occult dimensions of existence are gradually teased out. What does carbolic acid and cologne actually smell like\, and why? How can one explain the symmetry between a lit cigarette and a smoking chimney? And who is it moving in the attic? \n\n\n\nThe Bureau for Investigative Immateriality has been run since 2013 by the artist Marie Andersson (born 1962) and the writer Niklas Qvarnström (born 1969). \n\n\n\nAbout the artists\n\n\n\nNiklas Qvarnström (born 1969) is a writer and literary critic based in Malmö—a city he has examined and reworked in the essay collection Memento Malmö (2001) and in novel form in Turba – a Nineties Novel from the Future (2019). In the roles of secretary\, detective\, necromancer\, and more\, he runs the Bureau for Investigative Immateriality together with Marie Andersson. \n\n\n\nMarie Andersson (born 1962) is an artist trained at Malmö Art Academy\, living and working in Malmö. Throughout her artistic career\, she has been interested in immaterial phenomena such as time\, memory\, loss\, disappearance\, weather\, light\, projection\, and other phenomena without a material body. SUMMARY:Celebration of Sweden Finns Day
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nHanna Ryynänen. Photo: Mikko Malmivaara\n\n\nCelebration of Sweden Finns Day\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Art Hall invites you to a kantele concert\, guided tour\, and workshop with fika on Sweden Finns Day. Bring your friends and family and join the full program or selected parts.\n \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4:30–6:30 pm Workshop & fika with the artist Pauliina Pietilä5:00–5:45 pm Guided tour of the CC Hennix exhibition with the artist Matti Sumari6:00–6:50 pm Concert with folk musician and kantele player Hanna Ryynänen \n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop with Pauliina Pietilä: Valo & Lumi – Light and Snow \n\n\n\n\n\nIn this open family workshop\, we draw inspiration from Finland and the winter light phenomena. Do you have memories of snow\, twilight\, or darkness that you want to express? What does winter look like in Finland? Have you seen the northern lights? What colors did you see?\n \n\n\n\nShadows are not black\, and snow is not white. What colors can be found in shadows\, and how do you paint snow? The color of a shadow is the complementary color of the light. In winter\, an unusually red sky at sunset can be a sign that snow is on the way.\n \n\n\n\nParticipants create images or objects freely using painting\, collage\, and various materials. The workshop is suitable for both children and adults and requires no prior experience.\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Hanna Ryynänen \n\n \n\n\n\nHanna Ryynänen is an expressive kantele player\, improviser\, and folk musician from Finland. Her music encompasses a wide range of kanteles\, with the rich sound and inspiring playing techniques of the Saarijärvi kantele being particularly close to her heart. Exploring different tonal colors and experimenting with various styles is central to Hanna’s music\, as are influences drawn from the rich traditions of kantele playing. Her enchanting and powerful presence invites both the audience and herself to be surprised and delighted by the musical worlds created in the moment. \n\n\n\nTietoa suomeksi\n\n\n\nMalmö Konsthall kutsuu kantelekonserttiin\, näyttelykierrokselle ja työpajaan kahvitarjoilun kera Ruotsinsuomalaisten päivänä. Erityisesti Saarijärven kantele on lähellä hänen sydäntään sävyrikkaan sointinsa ja inspiroivien soittotapojensa ansiosta. Improvisaatiolla on tärkeä rooli Hannan taiteellisessa työskentelyssä ja hän rakastaa etsiä uusia tapoja soittaa soittimiaan. Hanna julkaisi debyyttisooloalbuminsa Taite toukokuussa 2023. SUMMARY:Guided tour by Marcus Pal
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nCatherine Christer Hennix. Photo: Fergus Padel. \n\n\nGuided tour by Marcus Pa\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet to know CC Hennix’s unique and interdisciplinary practice through one of her closest collaborators. On Saturday\, March 7\, Marcus Pal will show the current exhibition at Malmö Konsthall. The guided tour will be held in Swedish and replaces Saturday’s public showing. \n\n\n\nMarcus Pal is a sound-artist\, composer and theorist who worked closely with Hennix for over ten years. Pal has been an artistic advisor in connection with the exhibition and also participates in the accompanying music program—as part of Catherine Christer Hennix’s Kamigaku Ensemble on Tuesday\, March 10\, and later in a performance with Hilary Jeffery based on their collaboration with Hennix in the ensemble Chora(s)san Time-Court Mirage. \n\n\n\nBeginning in the late 1960s\, CC Hennix (1948–2023) developed a practice that placed sound at its center. Best known for her long-duration compositions\, she integrated music\, mathematics\, philosophy\, language\, and visual forms in work that exceeds the bounds of any single medium\, unfolding instead as an integrated inquiry into structure\, perception\, and knowledge itself. \n\n\n\nRead more about the exhibition here. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Guided tourWhen: Saturday\, March 7 at 2:00 PMWhere: The Exhibition Hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

SUMMARY:Catherine Christer Hennix’s Kamigaku Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nPhoto: Andrea Avezzù. Courtesy of La Biennale di Venezia.\n\n\nCatherine Christer Hennix’s Kamigaku Ensemble \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMalmö Konsthall is pleased to present a long-duration\, large-scale performance by Kamigaku Ensemble\, Catherine Christer Hennix’s final ensemble and musical work. The concert is part of the exhibition program for “CC Hennix”\, on view until 17 May. Free admission\, with a limited number of seats available. \n\n\n\nIn a three-hour concert the ensemble presents the further life of Kamigaku\, a music characterized by precision-tuned and continuously sustained tones on trumpet and shō—the Japanese free-reed mouth organ—tones which fuse with electronic sound through combination tone harmony\, a fascinating phenomenon in which tones holographically give rise to new\, lower tones – similar to how the waves of the sea can combine to form larger and more powerful movements. \n\n\n\nIn Hennix’s characteristic style of combination tone harmony\, tones fuse into a massive sound field with a seemingly autonomous force\, a sonic reality in which the members of the ensemble navigate the subtle movements of tone through precise tuning\, at once guided by and guiding the emergent process of harmonic structuring. \n\n\n\nThe audience is here invited to take part of this sound\, comfortably seated\, wave by wave brought closer and closer to the center of Sound\, where habitual distinctions in perception and thought start to dissolve. \n\n\n\nLimited seating. Entry may be closed if the venue reaches capacity. \n\n\n\nRead more about CC Hennix exhibition here. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: ConcertWhen: Tuesday\, 10 March\, 6:00–9:00 pm \n\n\n\nThe art hall and restaurant Smak close at 9:00 pm.Where: Exhibition Hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThings to keep in mind for your visitHigh sound levels – please feel free to bring hearing protection. You are welcome to come and go during the concert. \n\n\n\nMattias Hållsten – shō \nMattias Hållsten (b. 1997\, Stockholm) is a Swedish composer and shō player.
