SUMMARY:The Strait Trilogy - Screening at Panora
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nStill image from The Strait Trilogy\, 2020-23\n\n\n\n\nThe Strait Trilogy – Screening at Panora\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScreening: The Strait Trilogy and conversation with the artists behind the film\, Matilda Tjäder & Asta Lynge. Moderator: Matthew Post\, curator of the exhibition Drain the Öresund. \n\n\n\nOm filmen \n\n\n\nThe Strait Trilogy is a Nordic Noir that tells the story of a portal located somewhere in the strait between Denmark and Sweden. \n\n\n\nDuring the warmest summer on record in the region of Øresund\, an array of strange events unfold; swimmers and kite surfers from the coastlines of the strait go missing whilst debris of personal belongings wash up on the shorelines. The Lynnetteholm Project – a large-scale expansion scheme of the city of Copenhagen is suspended and the artificial island promised to put an end to the housing crisis is\npostponed indefinitely. Amid rising tensions and the sudden closure of the Øresund Bridge – “the backbone of the region” – a geological survey is published and conspiracies of a supernatural force somewhere in the\nstrait proliferate. Two independent investigators emerge to navigate the locals’ stories. As they start to trace and map testimonies and forensic evidence\, everything seems to point towards a portal that has reopened\nafter centuries of closure. \n\n\n\nIn the wreckage of the supposedly permanent landscape new doors and theories around the region open up. The more they dig\, the deeper the portal becomes – and as they start to join the dots\, the darker the\nplot gets. On their journey through space-time they meet powerful characters from the local cultural canon such as internationally known stars Zlatan Ibrahimović and Arne Jacobsen – as well as other characters lesser known to the public eye. What all of them share is their interface with the portal and the consequences of having interfaced with it. As the plot thickens\, they start asking themselves if there’s actually someone controlling the narrative\, or even writing and editing it in real time? Are they themselves characters in someone else’s Nordic Noir? \n\n\n\nWhat was it with this place that had inspired myriad writers to journey through its darkness and shadows? Was it the landscape and latitude that invited projections beyond the horizon of the imaginable? The uncanny perfection of the “minimalist” design? Or was it perhaps the heart shaped mirror of the welfare state that at an honest glance fell from its thin nail onto the ground – shattering into pieces so sharp no one would walk away without a wound?  \n\n\n\nFilm factsDirector: Asta Lynge & Matilda Tjäder     Country: Danmark & SverigeYear: 2020-2023Length: 59:59 minLanguage: Swedish\, Danish\, English \n\n\n\nFeaturing:Jonas Bergen Rahmanzadeh\, Mai Brostrøm\, Sunjatha Conta\, Samuel Hatchwell\, Hans Frederik Jacobsen\, Asta Lynge\, Claus Lynge\, Mood\, Farhaan Mumtaz\, Anna Paterson\, Sara Sjölin\, Louis Scherfig\, Tora Schultz\, Emilia Thorin\, Matilda Tjäder\, Beth von Undall. \n\n\n\nImage: Jakob OhrtScript\, direction\, edit and production: Asta Lynge & Matilda TjäderCostume: Sanna Helena BergerSoundtrack: FivestarrockstarPoster design: Anna Sagström \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Filmscreening at PanoraWhen: Tuesday 4.3 17.30–20Where: Biograf Panora\, Friisgatan 19D \n\n\n\n\nSchedule \n\n\n\n17:30 – Mingle18:00 – Screening19:00 – Talk \n\n\n\n\nFree admission. SUMMARY:Film screening and discussion: Öresund Past-Present-Future & Lynetteholm
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nLynetteholm perimeter\, phase 1. Photo: Jan Henningsen\n\n\n\n\nFilm screening and discussion: Öresund Past-Present-Future & Lynetteholm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom the future optimism of the past to today’s utopias\, artificial islands\, chemical disasters\, intensive efforts to improve the marine environment\, projects to raise awareness of the seas in anticipation of upcoming climate changes\, rising sea levels\, and warmer oceans. And what does the future scenario look like for the Öresund\, as well as the Baltic Sea\, in relation to the gigantic artificial peninsula Lynetteholm\, which Denmark is in the process of building as protection against future storm surges? \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n17.00 – 17.30 Introduction: Film screening – “Washing an Island” (work in progress 2021-). By (p) Art of the Biomass; artists Malin Lobell\, Janna Holmstedt\, and Karin Wegsjö. The film tells the story of Gipsön\, the artificial island off the coast of Landskrona\, which exists because of chemical fertilizers. Michael Palmgren\, Executive Director of the Marine Knowledge Center in Malmö\, will show a short film of the dead seabeds around Gipsön. What happened then\, what is happening now\, and what is about to happen? And what is sea awareness? Michael will explain and lead the discussion. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n17.40 – 18.00 Lynetteholm\, presentation of facts regarding the process by Felicia Konrad\, artist and climate activist. Michael Palmgren will clarify the consequences and answer questions. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n18.00 – 18.30 What is happening in Denmark?\nArchitect and TV host Ane Cortzen will participate via Zoom. Ane Cortzen is the editor of the book Taenk os Om\, in which several of Denmark’s leading researchers present their proposals for solutions to what Lynetteholm is said to solve—protection against storm surges\, housing\, and infrastructure. ‘Before we make irreversible decisions for the future\, we need to think carefully! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Michael Palmgren \n\n\n\nMichael Palmgren is one of the founders of the Marine Knowledge Center in Malmö and a visionary leader and passionate advocate for our oceans. Since the 1970s\, he has worked on issues related to the conditions of the seas and is frequently hired as a marine expert. Michael leads marine development projects and lectures internationally on Ocean Literacy. \n\n\n\nAbout Felicia Konrad \n\n\n\nFelicia Konrad is a multidisciplinary artist and climate activist\, and one of the driving forces behind the art project I Still Live in Water. Felicia initiated\, among other things\, the involvement of Fridays for Future Malmö in the opposition to Lynetteholm\, started petitions/collaborations\, and updated the press. \n\n\n\nAbout Ane Cortzen \n\n\n\nAne Cortzen is an architect\, TV host\, and cultural commentator with a background in design and visual identity. After being educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen\, she has had a distinguished career in the TV and media world\, including as design director at DR and host of several cultural programs. Ane has also worked as cultural director at Kähler and is currently active as a freelance TV and radio host\, moderator\, and speaker. SUMMARY:Soak Nyhamnen!
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nPhoto: Rodrigo Yañez\n\n\n\n\nSoak Nyhamnen!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe vision of draining the Øresund may seem absurd\, but building land out into the sea is nothing new for Malmö. Everything that is—and once was—the city’s port was once water. Over a hundred years ago\, Nyhamnen took shape and for a long time served as an important hub for everything from cargo handling and food inspection to sea baths and travel. Gradually\, port operations have moved elsewhere\, and today Nyhamnen is one of the city’s most coveted areas for development. But what happens when the sea level rises—and is it even reasonable to build new homes? \n\n\n\nIn light of a burning climate crisis\, familiar ways of thinking and value systems are being upended\, and our traditional planning tools seem inadequate. What values and qualities exist in Nyhamnen today\, and what can we learn from the history of the place? What do we want to build on the edge of the sea? \n\n\n\nStudents from the course Building Culture\, the postmaster’s program in architecture at the Royal Institute of Art\, present parts of their work on Nyhamnen and invite a discussion about what urban development during a time of reassessment could mean. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the courseThe Building Culture course is a one-year full-time advanced-level program at the Royal Institute of Art. It provides specialized expertise to professionals across the entire field of architecture and built environment. The program aims to offer a holistic view of the subject of building culture and explores the extensive building stock as a resource and driver for sustainable societal development. The course is project-based and multidisciplinary\, designed to stimulate active discussion and knowledge exchange among different professional categories. It is intended for architects\, planning architects\, landscape architects\, interior designers\, conservators\, journalists\, civil engineers\, project managers\, cultural geographers\, and more. This year\, the course is temporarily based in Nyhamnen in Malmö in collaboration with the City of Malmö. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: DiscussionWhen: Wednesday\, April 30th\, 16:00 – 17:30Where: C-hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

SUMMARY:Curator-led tour of Lars Fredrikson
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nThe exhibition’s curators Sara Arrhenius and Mats Stjernstedt. Photo: Julien Bourgeois & Helena Pataki\n\n\n\n\nCurator-led tour of Lars Fredrikson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the exhibition’s curators in a special guided tour of the exhibition “Lars Fredrikson.” Sara Arrhenius\, Director of the Swedish Institute\, and Mats Stjernstedt\, Director of the art hall\, will talk about Fredrikson’s artistry\, his work in France\, and why his art is relevant today. This tour replaces the public tour on Saturday. The tour will be conducted in Swedish. \n\n\n\nLars Fredrikson was born in Stockholm and moved to France in 1960. His work was deeply influenced by the spirit of the time\, encompassing early experiments with electronics and television. He was particularly interested in our perception of the spatial and created new relationships between artworks and their environments. As a trained radio engineer\, Fredrikson constructed pieces that captured the invisible waves and frequencies of space in various ways. His artistic practice explored the boundaries between the visible and invisible\, between absence and presence\, movement and sculpture. Fredrikson founded France’s first sound studio at the Villa Arson Art School in Nice\, which influenced several generations of sound artists. \n\n\n\nRead more about the exhibition here  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Guided tourWhen: Saturday May 24\, 14-15Where: The exhibition hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in

SUMMARY:MSO Pop-Up: Malmö Konsthall
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nPhoto: Johan Sundell\n\n\n\n\nMSO Pop-Up: Malmö Konsthall\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo Anniversaries – A Unique Evening of Art and Music in Harmony \n\n\n\nThis year\, two of Malmö’s key cultural institutions are celebrating major anniversaries: Malmö Symphony Orchestra turns 100\, and Malmö Konsthall turns 50. The occasion is marked with a poetic pop-up concert\, where MSO’s string musicians meet the visionary world of French-Swedish artist Lars Fredrikson – right among the artworks\, in the heart of the gallery. \n\n\n\n  Music in Dialogue with Lars Fredrikson’s ArtDuring the concert\, the audience is surrounded by Malmö Konsthall’s new exhibition featuring works by Lars Fredrikson (1926–1997) – a pioneer of sound and spatial art. His artistry challenges our perceptions of presence\, perception\, and the invisible within space. With works that capture frequencies and waves we cannot see\, an unusual resonance emerges with the tonal world of the concert – here\, the vibrations of music find a visual echo. \n\n\n\nFredrikson was a radio engineer\, poetic inventor\, and a master of sound art. In the exhibition\, we encounter his multifaceted artistry: from collages and kinetic sculptures to sound works and collaborations with contemporary poets. It’s an artistic universe where movement\, silence\, and sound converge – just like in this concert.   \n\n\n\nMusic and Art in Shared Motion  \n\n\n\nEncountering music outside the traditional concert hall opens the senses. As MSO’s string musicians take their place among Fredrikson’s artworks\, a conversation arises between two forms of expression – between tones and textures\, oscillations and sculptures. \n\n\n\nBritta Byström’s music shows a particular sensitivity to sound – a resonance that could be called impressionistic. A Walk by Heart is one of around 20 works with various versions of “walk.” Each walk is written as a journey toward the next piece in the program. They begin with a small\, almost inaudible step and fade out – as if the music is passing by you. Especially characteristic is the pulse in these works\, which Byström describes as tiptoeing steps. Mozart’s Divertimento begins in the same spirit\, with a calm\, walking Andante that then breaks into a more spirited Allegro di molto. \n\n\n\nThe concert concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade in E minor\, one of his most frequently performed works\, where the music flows gently\, idyllically\, and peacefully. \n\n\n\n  “It’s a challenge\, but I want us to reach out and touch people. The orchestra has unforgettable experiences to offer – for all of Malmö!”So says Martyn Brabbins\, MSO’s incoming Chief Conductor. This event is one of several MSO pop-up concerts happening this spring – a meeting between two worlds\, and between two anniversaries\, both of which have shaped Malmö’s cultural life for half and a full century\, respectively. \n\n\n\nParticipantsMusicians: String players from Malmö Symphony OrchestraConductor: Peter ManningConcertmaster: Marika Fältskog \n\n\n\nFree Admission – Just Come! The concert is open to all\, no ticket required.
