During the evening\, past\, present\, and future will meet in three program segments that together explore how Malmö Konsthall’s architecture has been shaped\, interpreted\, and inspired. Participate in one program or all eveneing. Limited seating; entrance via main entrance. \n\n\n\n5:30: Doors open! \n\n\n\nEntrance through the main entrance \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCANCELLED: Special Tour – “When Malmö Konsthall Was Built” with Mats ÖsterbergThe tour is cancelled due to illness. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n6:00–7:00 PM “Art Space” – Lecture by Adam Caruso (Caruso St John Architects) (in English) – In collaboration with Sveriges Arkitekter \n\n\n\nArchitect Adam Caruso\, professor at ETH Zürich and co-founder of Caruso St John Architects\, is internationally renowned for his work on art and museum buildings that combine modernity with a strong sense of place and materiality. \n\n\n\nIn his lecture\, Caruso returns to Malmö Konsthall – a building he analyzed in a notable 2000 essay in the journal AA Files. There\, he described how Anshelm’s gallery manages to create “a spatial richness comparable to that of old factories and schools – in a newly built art hall.” \n\n\n\nCaruso reflects on Malmö Konsthall as one of the few examples of architecture that embodies both monumentality and openness\, remaining just as relevant for today’s discussions about the space of art galleries. \n\n\n\nThe lecture is in English and will also be livestreamed via Teams. Here is the link to the livestream. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n7:00–7:30 PM Talk: “When a New Art Museum Is Built in Malmö”(in Swedish) \n\n\n\nA conversation on the development of the art museum\, focusing on artistic processes\, new working methods\, and the exploration of what a future institution can be\, as well as the journey there through architecture and the design of the site in Kungsparken. \n\n\n\nParticipants include Thérèse Kristiansson from the art\, design\, and architecture group MYCKET\, Finn Williams – Malmö’s city architect\, and Linda Holster\, who works with organizational development at Malmö Art Museum. \n\n\n\nThe conversation will be held in English and led by Mats Stjernstedt\, Director of Malmö Konsthall. \n\n\n\nThe evening is presented in collaboration with Sveriges Arkitekter\, the City Planning Office of Malmö\, and Malmö Art Museum. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Guided tour\, talk & lectureWhen: Friday\, 28 November\, 5:30–7:30 PMWhere: Exhibition Hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free\, drop in \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdam Caruso – Nottingham Contemporary\, model photograph of gallery

SUMMARY:SHIFT – Culture Beyond the Norm
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nSHIFT – Culture Beyond the Norm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat could art be if everyone had access to the conditions needed to create and experience it? The theme weekend SHIFT\, November 7–9\, highlights the structures that limit both artists and audiences with non-normative abilities. The program is aimed at both the general public and those working in cultural institutions. Participation is free. \n\n\n\nDuring the theme weekend SHIFT\, you can attend panel discussions\, concerts\, film screenings\, guided tours\, and much more. The program focuses on opportunities and successes in inclusive cultural practices. Several local and regional cultural organizations participate\, including Skånes Dansteater\, Moomsteatern\, and Malmö Konstmuseum. You can choose to take part throughout the entire weekend or join individual events. \n\n\n\nDiscussion on inclusion and audience development\n\n\n\nIn the discussion “Being Expected as a Visitor”\, Malmö Konsthall and Visit Skåne invite participants to explore how cultural institutions can develop to reach a broader audience\, with a particular focus on visitors with non-normative abilities. The conversation provides insight into how organizations work with inclusion and audience development\, featuring contributors from various parts of the cultural sector and other relevant fields.Through Our Dialogue (TOD) is a collective research project that explores institutional access in collaboration with young artists and art workers with physical and mental disabilities. In the talk “Through Our Dialogue – On Institutional Access Initiatives” on Saturday\, the panel — consisting of members of TOD’s dialogue group — will discuss institutional initiatives for increased accessibility. They pose critical questions about what and who is valued in today’s systems of representation. The program is in English. \n\n\n\nFood Music\, Films and Guided Tours\n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, Pablo De Acha from Mosaikteatern in Stockholm will perform sporadically in the exhibition\, playing piano. He presents his musical performance “Matvariationer” (Food Variations)\, in which he interprets how different dishes might sound musically. Skånes Dansteater will show the short films “Still Life” and “Preface.” The first is a dance film recorded in spaces of art\, and the second is a love story about a man who lets his hands speak when something needs to be said. The British feature film “The Stimming Pool” is created by five neurodivergent artists who\, without explaining or simplifying\, want to show what it’s like to live with autism. The film has been praised for its original form and for giving space to perspectives that have often been missing in cinema. The weekend also includes audio-described and sign language–interpreted tours of the exhibition “Speaking Volumes.”The theme weekend is organized in collaboration with Visit Skåne. Visit Skåne website. \n\n\n\nFull program\n\n\n\nFriday\, November 7→ 2:00 PM: Sign language–interpreted curator tour of the exhibition “Speaking Volumes” (location: exhibition hall)→ All day: Screening of the short films “Preface” and “Still Life” by Skånes Dansteater (looping\, location: C Hall)→ 8:00 PM: Drag show: Drag Syndrome with AVANT Scenkonst at Inkonst (location: Inkonst\, ticket required) Read more about Drag Syndrome and book tickets \n\n\n\nSaturday\, November 8→ 11:15 AM: Audio-described curator tour in Swedish of the exhibition “Speaking Volumes” (location: exhibition hall)→ Sporadically during the day: Musical performance “Food Variations” with Pablo De Acha from Mosaikteatern→ 1:00–2:30 PM: Conversation: Through Our Dialogue – On Institutional Access Initiatives. For specific accessibility questions\, please e-mail elina.norrmoersgard@malmo.se\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFilm: The Stimming Pool\n”The Stimming Pool” is an experimental—at times fantastical—hybrid feature film\, co-created by a collective of autistic artists\, the Neurocultures Collective\, and filmmaker Steven Eastwood\, who invite you into a neurodiverse world within the undulating logic of neurotypical environments. The film presents the possibilities of a world informed by autistic perspectives and perception\, and features a cast of autistic actors and non-actors. \n\n\n\n“The Stimming Pool” is a non-linear narrative that shifts between various characters and environments. We follow individuals grappling with sensory overload\, societal norms\, and the pressure to mask their autism\, alongside moments of community\, rest\, and creative expression. Some characters navigate societal expectations\, while others are more attuned to their needs and identities. A shared goal gradually emerges: to find a space or state free from norms — “The Stimming Pool”. \n\n\n\nThe film premiered at CPH:DOX in 2024 and has since been showcased at several festivals. It has been praised for its originality and for portraying autism not merely as a theme but as an active\, shaping force. The film offers viewers a sensory\, embodied experience where images\, sounds\, and camera movements play significant roles. “The Stimming Pool” challenges conventional portrayals of autism in cinema and contributes to discussions on representation\, artistic expression\, and access to spaces where neurodivergent individuals can define their own experiences. \n\n\n\nLanguage: EnglishLength: 67 minuterCountry of production: United KingdomProduction company: Whalebone FilmsThe Neurocultures Collective (direction): Georgia Kumari Bradburn\, Sam Chown-Ahern\, Benjamin Brown\, Lucy Walker\, Robin KnowlesCo-director and co-producer: Steven EastwoodProducer: Chloe White \n\n\n\n\nTalk: Being Expected as a Visitor (in Swedish)\nMalmö Konsthall and Visit Skåne invite you to a conversation about how cultural institutions can evolve to engage a broader audience and enhance accessibility\, with a particular focus on visitors with non-normative functionality. \n\n\n\nThe conversation brings together actors from various sectors of the cultural field and other relevant organizations to provide the audience with insights into how institutions work with inclusion and audience development. It is an opportunity to listen\, be inspired\, and gain different perspectives on how culture can be made accessible to more people. \n\n\n\nThe conversation will be in Swedish and interpreted into sign language.Participants:Carolina E Olsson – Moderator (Visit Skåne)Max Granström – CEO\, Visit SkåneFredrik Öjbro – Director\, Dunkers KulturhusMarie Norrthon – Project Manager\, Skånes DansteaterSandra Johansson – Executive Director\, Moomsteatern \n\n\n\n\nConversation: Through Our Dialogue – On Institutional Access Initiatives\nThrough Our Dialogue (TOD) is a collective research project that explores institutional access in collaboration with young artists and art workers with physical and mental disabilities. Over the course of a year\, TOD brings together a dialogue group working with a self-directed program of exchanged experiences\, workshops\, and in-depth conversations. The outcome of this process\, a co-created access tool\, will aim to generate more nuanced understandings of what it is like to have functions that differ from the majority’s\, and how art institutions can accommodate this through care. \n\n\n\nThrough a slow\, trust-based methodology\, TOD challenges conventional institutional practices by centering lived experience\, mutual learning\, and long-term relationship-building. This panel\, consisting of members of the TOD dialogue group\, will discuss institutional initiatives for better access\, while raising critical questions about what and who is valued in current systems of representation. By elevating the potential for increased institutional care\, the conversation invites broader reflections on accessibility\, inclusion\, and democratic change in the arts. \n\n\n\nTOD is initiated and facilitated by Malmö Konstmuseum. \n\n\n\nParticipants: \n\n\n\nGin Mariá González (he/she/they) is a researcher\, artist\, and designer working with archives of creative disability culture and critical access practices. They publish field notes and zines online/offline. Gin is also experimenting with communal networks care with other disabled and neurodivergent kin. \n\n\n\nAnastasija (Nastija) Kiake (they/them) a visual artist and writer exploring how social\, political\, and spiritual realities are shaped by emotions\, belonging\, and structures of violence. Positioned between post-Soviet identity formation and the migrant experience in the Global North\, their work examines intimate narration and the absurdity of “historical” moments. \n\n\n\nTone Ottilie (they/she) is a visually impaired and neurodivergent writer and film director from Copenhagen. Tone is passionate about representation and accessibility in the visual arts for people with sensory differences and other disabilities and works from an intersection of queerness\, disability and a strong held belief that better access for disabled people\, can help build better art institutions for everyone. \n\n\n\nAnna Walther (she/her) is a danish visual artist based between Lolland and Copenhagen. Her works center around sculpture\, installations and art in public spaces with focus on access\, power structures and neurodivergent perspectives. \n\n\n\n\nPablo De Acha/Mosaikteatern\nPablo De Acha\, a long-time performer with Mosaikteatern\, presents his improvised musical performance “Matvariationer” (Food Variations).
