SUMMARY:Welcome Ingela Ihrman's wooden sculpture to Guldängen
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIngela Ihrman\, “First Came the Landscape”\, 2023. Photo: Helene Toresdotter\n\n\nWelcome Ingela Ihrman’s wooden sculpture to Guldängen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman’s artwork “First Came the Landscape\,” previously showcased in the exhibition at the konsthall in fall 2023\, is now finding new life at Guldängen’s construction playground! The piece\, a fifteen-meter-long wooden figure crafted from sticks\, branches\, roots\, and logs from dead alder trees from Bulltofta nature reserve\, serves as a commentary on the origins of humans and nature. At the opening\, you can meet the artist\, participate in a creative workshop\, and barbecue by the fire. \n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman has donated the giant sculpture “First Came the Landscape” to the construction and cultivation playground at Guldängen in Sofielund\, Malmö\, where it will now become a permanent feature. Play is central to Ingela Ihrman’s creation\, and the idea is for the artwork at Guldängen to become a part of children’s play\, allowing them to interact with it in various ways. Guldängen is a manned construction playground and urban farming space operated by Växtvärket Malmö\, which\, in turn\, spearheads various projects focusing on child-friendly and sustainable cities. \n\n\n\nInauguration and workshops\n\n\n\nThe inauguration at Guldängen’s construction playground begins with short speeches by Ingela Ihrman\, art hall director Mats Stjernstedt\, and Ellinor Portinson\, project manager at Guldängen. From 12 to 15\, there will be an art workshop\, and sausage and flatbread will be provided for grilling. \n\n\n\nGuldängen is also hosting workshops related to the artwork on the day before\, Tuesday the 20th of February\, from 12 to 15\, and on the same time on Thursday the 22nd of February. The activities are primarily aimed at families with children aged 6 to 10\, but are open to all. During the workshops\, you’ll get to create using various materials and techniques and participate in crafting stories about the character that has moved into Guldängen. By the fire\, we’ll prepare a simple snack together with hot drinks. Warmly welcome in the winter cold! \n\n\n\n\n“It has become increasingly important for me to work sustainably and with materials that already exist in nature\, avoiding burdening the environment and ensuring they can be returned to nature.” \nIngela Ihrman about “First Came the Landscape”\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout GuldängenFilm about ”First Came the Landscape” \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Inauguration & workshopWhen: Wednesday 21.2 at 13Where: Guldängen’s construction playground\, Uddeholmsparken in Malmö \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with Guldängen’s construction playground and with the support of the Joh. SUMMARY:Film screening: The documentary "Pyuupiru 2001–2008"
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nCover “Pyuupiru 2001–2008”. Photo: Masayuki Yoshinaga\n\n\nFilm screening: The documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPyuupiru is a Japanese artist who has been an inspiration to Leif Holmstrand for many years\, and there is a strong kinship and mutual respect for each other’s work. In conjunction with Holmstrand’s exhibition\, we will be screening the documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008” by filmmaker Daishi Matsunaga\, which follows Pyuupiru’s exploration of her identity and later gender-affirming surgery. The film screening will begin with a brief introduction by Leif Holmstrand. \n\n\n\nAbout the documentary\n\n\n\nIn the documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008” (2011)\, we get to follow Pyuupiru\, filmed by an old friend\, Daishi Matsunaga\, over a period of eight years. The film follows Pyuupiru from the time when the artist started frequenting clubs wearing eccentric handmade costumes\, through a gender identity disorder\, a broken heart and gender-affirming surgery. In 2005 she did a performance at Yokohama Triennale as a compilation of her life experiences. Pyuupiru was born male\, but gradually realized that her body did not fit her. Today\, she is a highly acclaimed contemporary artist who works in various fields\, including costume design\, writing\, and character design\, with a focus on the body and gender. \n\n\n\nAbout the screening\n\n\n\nThe film has a duration of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes\, and refreshments can be purchased at the restaurant Smak before the film begins. The film is screened with English subtitles. Holmstrand’s exhibition “Life of Termites: The End” will remain open in the evening until 19:00 – take the opportunity to explore the exhibition before the film screening. In the exhibition\, Holmstrand also showcases other relevant artistic works that have influenced his own creative process. Pyuupiru contributes with a piece about transgender identity\, titled “Selfportrait #24 – A Demon Murderer Celebrating a Ritual.” Holmstrand had previously brought Pyuupiru’s works to Sweden as a curator for the exhibition “Translation Theme Park” at Galleri 21 and Galleri Ping Pong in Malmö in 2014. \n\n\n\nSee the trailer here \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Film screeningWhen: Wednesday 28.2 at 18–20:45. The duration of the film is 2\,5 hours and is introduced by Leif Holmstrand. The film is screened with English subtitles.Where: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFree admission\, but limited seating (90 seats) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Pyuupiru\nPyuupiru is born in Japan 1974 and lives in Tokyo. She is a highly acclaimed contemporary artist\, who also works in a wide range of fields such as art direction\, character design\, costume design\, writing\, and so on. The art works that Pyuupiru creates are characterized by their working processes. She absorbs opposed concepts such as “life and death”\, “men and women”\, “one and other”\, and “hurt and damage”\, through her own experiences and thoughts\, and she assimilates them\, sublimates them into higher concepts\, and then gives concrete form to them. With her original view of the world\, she currently creates installations\, movies\, performances\, portraits\, sculpture works.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAbout Daishi Matsunaga\nDaishi Matsunaga is born in Tokyo in 1974. Matsunaga started his career as an actor before he went on to direct music videos and commercials. His highly acclaimed documentary “Pyuupiru 2001– 2008” (premiere in 2011) has been screened at several international film festivals. His film “Pieta in the Toilet” (2015)\, was awarded at the Yokohama Film Festival\, and was his fiction film debut.

SUMMARY:Collective Action: Echoing the Voices of Women – Woman\, LIFE\, Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nAhead of International Women’s Day\, we’re creating an installation where we amplify the voices of women living in war and oppression.\n\n\nCollective Action: Echoing the Voices of Women – Woman\, LIFE\, Freedom\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMalmö Konsthall commemorates International Women’s Day in solidarity with women worldwide\, alongside PEN Malmö\, ABF Malmö\, Feminist Dialog\, and Feminists4Jina. On two Sundays\, March 3rd and 10th\, we gather to highlight women in some of the world’s conflict areas\, with a special focus this year on Gaza. We do it in the spirit of culture with music\, readings\, dance\, and conversations. On Sunday\, March 3rd\, we collectively write on the konsthall’s windows facing Magistratsparken. \n\n\n\nThe audience is invited to write texts by female authors and cultural creators from various parts of the world living under oppression or in war. The event is a continuation of the installation at the Panora cinema in 2023\, when the windows were filled with texts by imprisoned women in Iran. In addition to the organizers\, artist Leif Holmstrand\, featured in the ongoing exhibition\, and Chinese artists and activists Shi Tou and Mingming\, who are visiting Malmö\, will also participate. The activity takes place during the art hall’s opening hours from 11 to 17. \n\n\n\nMer om organisers:Feminist DialogSvenska PENFeminists4JinaABF Malmö \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: ProgramWhen: Sunday 3.3 at 11:00–17:00Where: The exhibition space \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPlease note that this is one of two events under the theme “Echoing the Voices of Women: Woman\, LIFE\, Freedom.” The other program is a program day featuring music\, poetry\, and dance on Sunday\, March 10th\, at 13:00–16:00. SUMMARY:Book release & discussion: Mellan resignation och framtidstro
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nBook release & discussion on living conditions and learning among young people in the suburbs.\n\n\nBook release & discussion: Mellan resignation och framtidstro\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe book “Mellan resignation och framtidstro” (Between Resignation and Hope for the Future)\, published by Natur & Kultur\, is a counter-narrative to the stereotypical image of young people in the suburbs. The book brings together three research projects focusing on the limitations and opportunities in young people’s living conditions and learning in some of Gothenburg’s most stigmatized neighborhoods. Nicolas Lunabba moderates a panel discussion with Aina Gagliardo\, Mikael Stigendal\, Julia Böhler\, and Daniel Diaz about the book. The program is in Swedish. \n\n\n\nAbout the book\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe book is written by Ove Sernhede\, Nils Hammarén\, Johannes Lunneblad\, Sara Uhnoo\, Majsa Allelin\, Kristina Alstam\, Helene Fransson\, Marcus Herz\, and Jonas Lindbäck. Through qualitative research methods\, they amplify the voices of young people and locally engaged individuals. The book is divided into three parts: The Suburb\, School\, and Youth Learning; Youth Communities and Informal Learning; School and the Transformation of the Suburb. The knowledge conveyed in the book can contribute to reversing the current trend\, improving school outcomes\, and increasing prospects for young people in our segregated cities – knowledge about the importance of equity and hope for the future. \n\n\n\nAbout the seminar\n\n\n\nThe participants in the discussion are Aina Gagliardo (from Hela Malmö)\, Mikael Stigendal (researcher at Malmö University)\, Julia Böhler (Malmö Leisure Services)\, and Daniel Diaz (representative from Hassela Skåne). The moderator for the discussion is Nicolas Lunabba\, author and manager of Hela Malmö. The discussion will be conducted in Swedish and will last for approximately two hours. \n\n\n\nMore about the book \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Book release & discussion (in Swedish)When: Saturday 9.3 at 14–17Where: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, admission freeThe discussion will be conducted in Swedish

SUMMARY:Authors' talk with Leif Holmstrand & book releases
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIn the exhibition “Life of Termites: The End\,” Leif Holmstrand has drawn over the pages of the book “The Life of Termites” by the Belgian author Maurice Maeterlinck.\n\n\nAuthors’ talk with Leif Holmstrand & book releases\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the ongoing exhibition at the konsthall\, Leif Holmstrand is celebrated in his many different roles: artist\, musician\, curator\, art collector\, and writer. As a writer\, he is now releasing the poetry collection “Community\,” a book he has been working on for 25 years. At the same time\, Vendels förlag is publishing a new edition of “The Life of Termites” by Maurice Maeterlinck\, a work that inspired Holmstrand for both the title and theme of his exhibition. Join us for an evening of author talks\, book presentations\, and releases. Participants for the evening include Leif Holmstrand\, Lina Rydén Reynols\, Johan Jönsson\, Göran Hjalmarsson\, and Torill Kornfeldt. The program is in Swedish. \n\n\n\nLeif Holmstrand as author\n\n\n\nLeif Holmstrand made his debut in 2002 with the poetry collection “Stekelgång\,” the same year he graduated from the Malmö Art Academy. Since then\, he has published around forty literary works. The new poetry collection “Community” has been in the making for 25 years\, and he is releasing the book under his own publishing house\, Pa-Parant. During the evening\, Holmstrand will engage in a conversation with his publisher Lina Rydén Reynols from Albert Bonniers förlag about his authorship. \n\n\n\n“Community” (mostly written in Swedish) contains poems\, prose poetry\, and lyrical drama. The book consists of interwoven poetic texts\, mostly arranged in two columns that can be read simultaneously. Many sections are built upon material from various internet communities\, while others stem from ideas of the lyrically beautiful or from various kinds of urgent testimonies – both personal and from others. Grief\, both individual and collective\, is discussed in the borderlands of surrealism\, often resembling incantations. Areas touched upon include sensual love and its darker counterpart\, the body\, anger\, and caregiving. \n\n\n\n Conversation about “The Life of Termites”\n\n\n\nIn a conversation with Vendels förlag\, we delve into “The Life of Termites\,” which has now been released in a modernised translation. What makes it worth reading and relevant enough to be placed in the hands of readers a whole century later? Publisher and editor Johan Jönsson discusses the book with Göran Hjalmarsson\, who has worked on the translation\, and author and science journalist Torill Kornfeldt\, who has written the afterword. “The Life of Termites” is a consistent source of inspiration in Holmstrand’s exhibition\, where sculptures and artworks compare the collective creation and individual characteristics of termites with human relationships. \n\n\n\nProgram:\n\n\n\n17:00: Pre-event mingle & book signing with Leif Holmstrand17:30–18:00: Johan Jönsson\, Göran Hjalmarsson\, and Torill Kornfeldt discuss the book “The Life of Termites.”18:00–18:45: Conversation between Leif Holmstrand and Lina Rydén Reynols\, publisher at Albert Bonniers förlag18:45–19:00: Wrap-up & questions \n\n\n\nFood & beverages\n\n\n\nBeverages with a selection plate for the evening can be pre-ordered through Restaurant Smak. The price for a selection plate with a glass (wine/beer/non-alcoholic) and assorted snacks (vegetarian/meat) is 239 SEK and can be booked via info@restaurangsmak.se no later than Monday\, March 18th. \n\n\n\nRead more about “The Life of Termites” on Vendels förlag’s website. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Author talk & book releasesWhen: Wednesday 20.3 at 17–19Where: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with Vendels förlag \n\n\n\nBeverages with a selection plate for the evening can be pre-ordered through Restaurant Smak at info@restaurangsmak.se – price information in the text. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJohan Jönsson\, publisher and editor at Vendels förlag\n\n\n\nTorill Kornfeldt. SUMMARY:Seminar: Elites and the critique against the establishment
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nThe cultural journal Fronesis realeases a new issue and invites you to a seminar.\n\n\nSeminar: Elites and the critique against the establishment\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe inequality debate has recently become more focused on elites. The new issue of the cultural journal Fronesis explores the worldview\, mobility\, and political influence of elites\, as well as how the very idea of “the elite” is today being used by populist movements to mobilize anger against both “the cultural left” and the middle class. Axel Vikström moderates a panel discussion about the issue with researchers Niklas Altermark\, Petter Sandgren and Linda Alamaa. The program is in Swedish. \n\n\n\nThe idea that one or several elites are becoming more powerful has become increasingly prominent in the public debate. However\, there is no consensus regarding which actors make up this “elite” and how it actually operates. If one listens to the left\, the elite consists of networks between wealthy owners and their political allies. If one listens to the right\, the elite consists of politically correct liberals. That said\, both camps seems to agree that a growing group of professional “managers” has gained too much influence over the development of society. \n\n\n\nThe new issue of the cultural journal Fronesis takes a broad approach to the elite\, both as actual actors and as a rhetorical figure. How is the use of the elite concept affected by its roots in fascist sentiments? How do new class coalitions contribute to securing the interests of the elite in a time of austerity? Why is it that the middle class and human resources workers are so often singled out as elites? These questions\, and many more\, will be discussed by three of the issue’s contributors during this seminar\, arranged as part of the release of the issue. \n\n\n\nAbout the seminar\n\n\n\nParticipating in the seminar are Niklas Altermark (researcher at Lund University and the union think thank Katalys)\, Petter Sandgren (researcher at Stockholm University)\, and Linda Alamaa (researcher at Halmstad University and one of the editors of the issue). The moderator for the discussion is Axel Vikström\, PhD student at Örebro University and a member of Fronesis’ editorial committee. The seminar\, which starts at 5:30\, is in Swedish and lasts approximately 75 minutes. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: SeminarWhen: Wednesday 27.3 at 17–19 Where: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFree admission. With a focus on transitions and\nenvironments of change\, Page 28 and In Between the Lines (IBTL) invite you to a writing\nworkshop at Malmö Konsthall. The day begins with two readings by poets based in Malmö\nfollowed by a workshop for writing and poetry creation. You are welcome regardless of\nprevious experience in writing. SUMMARY:Live performance: Leif Holmstrand & OLTA
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nOLTA’s and Leif Holmstrand’s performance “Fake Bones” at Lilith Performance Studio 2015. Photo: Petter Pettersson\n\n\nLive performance: Leif Holmstrand & OLTA\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Japanese artist collective OLTA and Leif Holmstrand are collaborating again. The untitled performance piece is realised on a Noh theater stage in Tokyo and broadcasted live and shown at Malmö Konsthall. What OLTA does with Leif Holmstrand is kept secret both from Holmstrand and the audience until it actually happens. \n\n\n\nIn a tradition-laden context\, serious play takes place in ritual form\, where clothes or shrouds may play the main roles\, things are tied and one thing is connected to another. The performance lasts about 40 minutes to an hour. The performance at the konsthall is part of the program in connection with the exhibition “Leif Holmstrand – Life of the Termites: The End”. Read more about the exhibition here. Holmstrand and OLTA have previously performed together\, then with the ten-day long performance work “Fake Bones” at Lilith Performance Studio in 2015. \n\n\n\nOLTA is an artists’ group formed in 2009\, consisting of Toru Inoue\, Takafumi Saito\, Yoshiro Hasegawa\, Meguninja\, and Jang-Chi. With the focus on collective actions and communications that take place within them\, they have presented works in various forms\, including painting\, performance\, and videography. They have presented their work at various venues and events\, including YPAM Direction (Yokohama\, 2011 & 2022)\, ROHM Theatre Kyoto (Kyoto\, 2020)\, Lilith Performance Studio (Sweden\, 2025)\, and Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival (South Korea\, 2014). SUMMARY:Kollaborativet: Performance
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\n”Röra!” by Kollaborativet with students from Valdemarsro specialized high school. Photo: Johan Danielsson\n\n\n\n\nKollaborativet: Performance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreating movement\, touch\, and presence. Inside and around us. Feeling\, pressing\, embracing\, observing\, and listening. In connection with the exhibition “RÖRA!”\, Kollaborativet invites to the exhibition space for a performance\, a collective and exciting event between visitors\, materials and objects\, image projections\, and soundscapes. \n\n\n\nCreating together\n\n\n\nDuring the autumn of 2023\, Kollaborativet conducted a co-creative artistic process together with students and educators at Valdemarsro specialized high school in Malmö. The process lasted for 12 weeks on-site at the school. The senses and our experience of movement were explored together with the students through encounters with various materials and objects\, changes in light\, and soundscapes in the room. The process laid the foundation for the performing arts experience “Mellan oss emellan” which premiered in March at Inkonst in Malmö. In the exhibition “RÖRA!”\, there is documentation in the form of photos\, films\, and sounds from the process with the students at the school as well as from the performance period of “Mellan oss emellan” at Inkonst. \n\n\n\n“Röra!” is directed both to families with children with disabilities as well as to other people in society who have little or no knowledge or contact with the broad group of children and young people with various disabilities. The hope with the exhibition is also that art institutions will be inspired to open up their activities to more people and that knowledge\, courage\, and openness to diversity will increase. \n\n\n\nRead more about “Röra!” \n\n\n\nKollaborativet is a performing arts collective operating at the intersection of movement\, performance\, and visual/installation art. A defining characteristic of Kollaborativet is that the group creates sensory performing arts\, continuously engages in co-creative processes with children and young people with disabilities and their educators\, and maintains an ongoing dialogue with researchers. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Performance \n\n\n\nWhen: Wednesday June 5th\, from 17-17:50 Where: C-room \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFree admission
