Det blir livekonsert\, samtal och premiärvisning av Ellisif Hals\, Yuvia Maini och Cassius Lamberts animerade kortfilm “Lågtid”. \n\n\n\n“Lågtid” är ett verk tillägnat tidens tillkortakommanden. Här utforskas mellanrummen mellan existenser. Vad händer när tillvaron står i lågvatten? Vad sker mellan bladen av ett verk i lågsäsong? Vad gör vi egentligen med vår dötid? \n\n\n\nDet audiovisuella verket föddes ur ett interdisciplinärt samarbete mellan konstnären Ellisif Hals\, animatören Yuvia Maini och kompositören Cassius Lambert. Her multidimensional drypoint prints have been celebrated by the Maria Bonnier Dahlins Foundation and in international and national solo exhibitions. \n\n\nYuvia Maini works as a digital artist and animator in Stockholm. She has\, among other things\, created work for Håkan Hellström\, Swedish Parliament\, Kristianstad Municipality and is part of Misschieffs’s artist collective. \n\n\nCassius Lambert is a Malmö-based composer. With electric bass as his primary tool\, explores unconventional soundscapes. In 2022\, received Malmö City’s cultural grant and SKAP’s cultural award.

Lisa Robertson will read from the book and engage in a conversation with its translator\, Jonas (J) Magnusson. Cecilia Grönberg will introduce new issues of the OEI magazine and other books from OEI editor’s spring and autumn releases. The program will be in English and Swedish. \n\n\n\n“The Baudelaire Fractal” is Robertson’s debut novel\, where the protagonist\, Hazel Brown\, wakes up one morning in a hotel room and realizes that she is the author of Charles Baudelaire’s complete works. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nOEI magazine started in 1999 and has published 101 issues. It is interested in literature and art\, experiments and montages\, critical investigations\, and counter-historiographies. Since 2002\, the publishing house OEI editör has released around a hundred titles. To OEI’s website \n\n\n\nLisa Robertson is a poet and author\, born in Canada and currently residing in France. Photo: Anderas Larsson\n\n\nWorkshop for those aged 16–19: Cardboard Painting with Jennifer Sameland\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat happens if you combine a color you love with a color you hate? Or paint something small\, enormous? Together with the artist Jennifer Sameland\, we’ll experiment on cardboard with different types of crayons: dry pastels\, oil crayons\, and wax crayons. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn the workshop\, you can paint based on your imagination or draw something we have in the workshop. The workshop is free of charge. \n\n\n\nJennifer Sameland was born in 1987 in Stockholm and is currently based in Malmö. Before Ihrman’s performance “Oilbird with Nestling” (at 18–18:15)\, we will screen the documentary “Birds in Eternal Darkness” (in Swedish) by nature filmmaker Jan Lindblad\, providing context to Ihrman’s performance. Restaurant Smak’s bar will remain open throughout the evening \n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman’s performances are often enactments in a single act: the flower blooms\, the fig splits\, the otter gives birth. However\, behind this simple occurrence\, complex questions about belonging\, identity\, origin\, and reproduction are concealed. In “Oilbird with Nestling”\, a bird feeds its nestling with fruits\, helps it to cough up peel and seeds and lulls it to sleep. The performance piece “Oilbird with Nestling” is presented with a bird costume created from reed plants. The bird appears to have an ambivalent relationship with light and electricity\, as it sometimes gets caught up playing with the switch… \n\n\n\nBefore the performance\, we will screen the film “Birds in Eternal Darkness” (1973\, in Swedish) by the Swedish nature filmmaker Jan Lindblad\, a significant source of inspiration for Ingela Ihrman. Jan Lindblad ventures deep into Trinidad’s caves to film the unique oilbird\, which is nocturnal and lives its entire life in darkness. The chicks of the oilbird used to be euthanized\, and their fat extracted for use as lamp oil. Photo: Malmö Konsthall\n\n\nFilm screening & talk on artistic freedom at Panora cinema\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTake the opportunity and meet two of China’s most renowned artists and queer activists\, Shi Tou and Mingming. In addition to presenting their film “Women Fifty Minutes\,” they engage in a conversation about artistic freedom\, forbidden art\, and art as a vital necessity. The event takes place at Panora cinema and is free of charge. The talk is interpreted to English. The artists are in Malmö at the invitation of Malmö Konsthall\, Unicorn – Artists in Solidarity\, and IASPIS. \n\n\n\nAbout the artists\n\n\n\nShi Tou\, celebrated as “one of the most prominent female artists in today’s China”\, is an activist\, painter\, photographer\, actress\, and filmmaker. She was the first woman to openly come out as lesbian on Chinese state television. Her lead role in “Fish and Elephant” (Yu Li\, 2001) played a significant role in the film winning awards at the Venice\, Berlin\, and Toronto film festivals in 2001\, marking it as the first Chinese feature film depicting lesbian women. Her films and artworks have been showcased at numerous film festivals and exhibitions worldwide. Since 2008\, Shi Tou has also served as the coordinator for China Queer Independent Films.\n \n\n\n\nMingming is an activist and artist working with photography and independent film. She is best known for her films\, including “Women Fifty Minutes\,” “Gang Xiang\,” and “We Want to Get Marriage.” Her films have been featured in many film festivals in China\, Taiwan\, Europe\, and the USA. The film “Dream on the Wall” won the gold prize at the 2010 Chinese Documentary Festival held in Hong Kong. Shi Tou is one of the few female artists who resided in the Yuanmingyuan artist village\, where young contemporary artists gathered in the early 1990s. Both Shi Tou and Mingming actively support the work for LGBTQ+ rights and women’s rights. \n\n\n\nAbout the film “Women Fifty Minutes”\n\n\n\nThe film “Women Fifty Minutes” (2006) is co-produced by Shi Tou and Mingming\, and is approximately an hour long. It was primarily filmed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau\, the remote and expanding southwestern China\, as well as in major cities like Beijing from 2000 to 2004. The documentary captures the social changes in contemporary China\, portraying women from different backgrounds and locations as they work\, pray\, gaze at the sky\, and fall in love. \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n17:30–18:00: Networking in Panora’s foyer18:00: Film screening “Women Fifty Minutes”19:00–19:45: Talk with the artists Shi Tou and Mingming. Photo: Helene Toresdotter\n\n\nWelcome Ingela Ihrman’s wooden sculpture to Guldängen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman’s artwork “First Came the Landscape\,” previously showcased in the exhibition at the konsthall in fall 2023\, is now finding new life at Guldängen’s construction playground! The piece\, a fifteen-meter-long wooden figure crafted from sticks\, branches\, roots\, and logs from dead alder trees from Bulltofta nature reserve\, serves as a commentary on the origins of humans and nature. At the opening\, you can meet the artist\, participate in a creative workshop\, and barbecue by the fire. \n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman has donated the giant sculpture “First Came the Landscape” to the construction and cultivation playground at Guldängen in Sofielund\, Malmö\, where it will now become a permanent feature. Play is central to Ingela Ihrman’s creation\, and the idea is for the artwork at Guldängen to become a part of children’s play\, allowing them to interact with it in various ways. Guldängen is a manned construction playground and urban farming space operated by Växtvärket Malmö\, which\, in turn\, spearheads various projects focusing on child-friendly and sustainable cities. \n\n\n\nInauguration and workshops\n\n\n\nThe inauguration at Guldängen’s construction playground begins with short speeches by Ingela Ihrman\, art hall director Mats Stjernstedt\, and Ellinor Portinson\, project manager at Guldängen. From 12 to 15\, there will be an art workshop\, and sausage and flatbread will be provided for grilling. \n\n\n\nGuldängen is also hosting workshops related to the artwork on the day before\, Tuesday the 20th of February\, from 12 to 15\, and on the same time on Thursday the 22nd of February. The activities are primarily aimed at families with children aged 6 to 10\, but are open to all. During the workshops\, you’ll get to create using various materials and techniques and participate in crafting stories about the character that has moved into Guldängen. By the fire\, we’ll prepare a simple snack together with hot drinks. Photo: Masayuki Yoshinaga\n\n\nFilm screening: The documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPyuupiru is a Japanese artist who has been an inspiration to Leif Holmstrand for many years\, and there is a strong kinship and mutual respect for each other’s work. In conjunction with Holmstrand’s exhibition\, we will be screening the documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008” by filmmaker Daishi Matsunaga\, which follows Pyuupiru’s exploration of her identity and later gender-affirming surgery. The film screening will begin with a brief introduction by Leif Holmstrand. \n\n\n\nAbout the documentary\n\n\n\nIn the documentary “Pyuupiru 2001–2008” (2011)\, we get to follow Pyuupiru\, filmed by an old friend\, Daishi Matsunaga\, over a period of eight years. The film follows Pyuupiru from the time when the artist started frequenting clubs wearing eccentric handmade costumes\, through a gender identity disorder\, a broken heart and gender-affirming surgery. In 2005 she did a performance at Yokohama Triennale as a compilation of her life experiences. Pyuupiru was born male\, but gradually realized that her body did not fit her. Today\, she is a highly acclaimed contemporary artist who works in various fields\, including costume design\, writing\, and character design\, with a focus on the body and gender. \n\n\n\nAbout the screening\n\n\n\nThe film has a duration of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes\, and refreshments can be purchased at the restaurant Smak before the film begins. The film is screened with English subtitles. Holmstrand’s exhibition “Life of Termites: The End” will remain open in the evening until 19:00 – take the opportunity to explore the exhibition before the film screening. In the exhibition\, Holmstrand also showcases other relevant artistic works that have influenced his own creative process. Pyuupiru contributes with a piece about transgender identity\, titled “Selfportrait #24 – A Demon Murderer Celebrating a Ritual.” Holmstrand had previously brought Pyuupiru’s works to Sweden as a curator for the exhibition “Translation Theme Park” at Galleri 21 and Galleri Ping Pong in Malmö in 2014. \n\n\n\nSee the trailer here \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Film screeningWhen: Wednesday 28.2 at 18–20:45. She is a highly acclaimed contemporary artist\, who also works in a wide range of fields such as art direction\, character design\, costume design\, writing\, and so on. The art works that Pyuupiru creates are characterized by their working processes. She absorbs opposed concepts such as “life and death”\, “men and women”\, “one and other”\, and “hurt and damage”\, through her own experiences and thoughts\, and she assimilates   them\, sublimates them into higher concepts\, and then gives concrete form to them.With her original view of the world\, she currently creates installations\, movies\, performances\, portraits\, sculpture works.\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAbout Daishi Matsunaga\nDaishi Matsunaga is born in Tokyo in 1974. Matsunaga started his career as an actor before he went on to direct music videos and commercials. His highly acclaimed documentary “Pyuupiru 2001– 2008” (premiere in 2011) has been screened at several international film festivals. His film “Pieta in the Toilet” (2015)\, was awarded at the Yokohama Film Festival\, and was his fiction film debut.

DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n      \n  \n\nAhead of International Women’s Day\, we’re creating an installation where we amplify the voices of women living in war and oppression.\n\n\nCollective Action: Echoing the Voices of Women – Woman\, LIFE\, Freedom\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMalmö Konsthall commemorates International Women’s Day in solidarity with women worldwide\, alongside PEN Malmö\, ABF Malmö\, Feminist Dialog\, and Feminists4Jina. On two Sundays\, March 3rd and 10th\, we gather to highlight women in some of the world’s conflict areas\, with a special focus this year on Gaza. We do it in the spirit of culture with music\, readings\, dance\, and conversations. On Sunday\, March 3rd\, we collectively write on the konsthall’s windows facing Magistratsparken. \n\n\n\nThe audience is invited to write texts by female authors and cultural creators from various parts of the world living under oppression or in war. The event is a continuation of the installation at the Panora cinema in 2023\, when the windows were filled with texts by imprisoned women in Iran. In addition to the organizers\, artist Leif Holmstrand\, featured in the ongoing exhibition\, and Chinese artists and activists Shi Tou and Mingming\, who are visiting Malmö\, will also participate.
