SUMMARY:Performance with Ingela Ihrman: Wandering Spruce
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIngela Ihrman\, The Fir Cone Walks. Documentation from LARU15 Human Era\, Helsinki 2015.\n\n\nPerformance with Ingela Ihrman: Wandering Spruce\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman – Frutti di Mare – is an exhibition where the artist in her works examines the human being’s complicated relationship to herself and other living beings. By wearing her sculptural costumes\, she seeks herself in other existences – in the passion flower\, the giant otter\, the oil bird or the fir cone – and uses humor as a tool to explore what it means to be someone\, or something. \n\n\n\nA fir cone walks from north to south\, allowing seeds made of silk and cardboard fall to the ground along its way. Popular scientific literature talks about how the Norweigan sprouce came wandering from the north – infinitely slow – when the ice sheet withdrew from the Nordic countries around 12\,000 years ago. \n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman’s performances are often performances in one act: the flower blooms\, the fig splits\, the tree wanders. But behind the simple process hides complex questions about belonging\, identity\, origin and reproduction\, and about the nature of being social. Who is actually looking at whom\, and how do we relate to each other? \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: PerformanceWhen: Sat 14.10 at 13.30–14 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance

SUMMARY:Performance with Ingela Ihrman: Giant Otter Giving Birth
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIngela Ihrman\, Giant Otter Giving Birth. Photo: IASPIS/Lena Malm\n\n\nPerformance with Ingela Ihrman: Giant Otter Giving Birth\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman – Frutti di Mare – is an exhibition where the artist in her works examines the human being’s complicated relationship to herself and other living beings. By wearing her sculptural costumes\, she seeks herself in other existences – in the passion flower\, the giant otter\, the oil bird or the fir cone – and uses humor as a tool to explore what it means to be someone\, or something. \n\n\n\nThe execution of Ingela Ihrmans costumes is precise and the materials are simple\, found or recycled. The otter costume is made of biking helmet\, glass marbles\, ping-pong balls\, almonds\, corn starch and beet root\, among others. By activating her works\, Ihrman wants to show that life and time also pass in the art halls\, and that the art space is not a freezer box where time stands still. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: PerformanceWhen: Sat 14.10 at 15–15.15 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance

By wearing her sculptural costumes\, she seeks herself in other existences – in the passion flower\, the giant otter\, the oil bird or the fir cone – and uses humor as a tool to explore what it means to be someone\, or something. \n\n\n\nA giant toad is making an effort to get through the plinths\, mats\, beam horses and roman rings of an obstacle race in a school gymnasium. The audience is welcome to participate in the gymnastic exercises along with the toad. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: PerformanceWhen: Sunday 5.11\, 15:00–15:15Where: The exhibition space \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free

DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIn the theater performance Vilka är ni? (Who are you?)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVilka är ni? (Who are you?) is a theater performance for all ages. The audience finds itself sitting face to face with six actors donned as animals and plants – a pike\, a blowfly\, a grass blade\, a star flower\, a wood mouse and a fir cone. Eventually they take off parts of their costumes and together with the audience try to understand who they all are. Who plays a role and who doesn’t? What does it mean to be something or someone? The performance is free but requires seat reservation. In Swedish. \n\n\n\nAre you awake at night or during the day? Can you fly? Can you swim? Do you sleep close to each other or on your own? Do you have a tail? Do you take care of those who are sick or do you leave them alone? What happens to you when you die? Are you afraid of being caught? Are you afraid of being left alone? Are you afraid of those you do not know? Are you dangerous to each other? \n\n\n\nThe theater performance Vilka är ni? (Who are you?) is shown as part of the exhibition Ingela Ihrman – Frutti di Mare and is performed by Ögonblicksteatern from Umeå. Ingela Ihrman has created the performance\, costumes\, and set design in close collaboration with director and playwright Maja Salomonsson. The performance is approximately 40 minutes long. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nVilka är ni? has earlier been performed at schools in Umeå and Sundsvall (2018) and at Weld\, Stockholm\, as part of Choreographies of the Social\, curated by Edi Muka at Statens konstråd (2019). SUMMARY:Theater performance: Vilka är ni? (Who Are You?)
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIn the theater performance Vilka är ni? (Who are you?) the audience meets a pike\, a blowfly\, a grass blade\, a star flower\, a wood mouse and a fir cone. \n\n\nTheater performance: Vilka är ni? It was selected for Bibu – Performing Arts Biennial for Children and Young – in 2020.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Theater performance for all ages\, in SwedishWhen: Wed 15.11 at 18 (med efterföljande samtal)Fri 17.11 at 18 \n\n\n\nSat 18.11 at 10 & 18Where: The exhibition space \n\n\n\nLimited seating available. SUMMARY:Workshop: Free to forbid!
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nThe artist network Unicorn invites you to a workshop on forbidden culture\, freedom of speech\, and the consequences of limited freedom.\n\n\nWorkshop: Free to forbid!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe artist network “Unicorn – Artists in Solidarity” invites you to a workshop on forbidden culture\, freedom of expression\, “canceling\,” and what the consequences of limited freedom may look like. Imagine if you suddenly became a citizen of a country where something fundamental to your identity was forbidden? What would it be\, and what would you do? What would a society where your thoughts were restricted look like? Can creativity flourish despite limitations? Or would you yourself want to forbid something? \n\n\n\nFor two hours\, we will discuss these ethical considerations. As a conclusion\, we will create a collective poetic manifesto. Manifestos can serve as tools to express thoughts and questions that may have been with you for a long time. “Unicorn – Artists in Solidarity” is a network of artists and cultural workers in Malmö who aim to create a solidarity-based and socially sustainable society and an art world that is not limited by political changes. Learn more about Unicorn here. \n\n\n\nThe program is part of Förbjuden kulturvecka (Forbidden Culture Week)\, which takes place in Malmö from November 20 to 26. SUMMARY:Queer home-making: Shitou and Mingming in dialogue with Unicorn
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nThe Chinese artists Shitou and Mingming live and work together. They are now guests at Malmö Konsthall for an artist talk.\n\n\nQueer home-making: Shitou and Mingming in dialogue with Unicorn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor over 20 years\, artists and life partners Shitou and Mingming have been creating\, carving\, sustaining and disseminating a home: for them\, as lesbians in modern-day China\, and for their communities. A home they more than once needed to pick up and take with them on the road\, replanting it at the edge of yet another village\, carrying the legacy and manifesto of a queer generation from one place to another. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nQueer women’s stories are often scarce even in more egalitarian historical circumstances\, and unmentioned in all others. Life and work partners Ramona Dima and Simona Dumitriu have witnessed this absence for years\, as they\, through research\, unearth smaller and smaller pieces of surviving memories\, like shards of broken terracotta\, soon like grains of sand slipping between one’s fingers. To know the stories which ground a queer person’s present is a vital step in building a queer home\, a hope of community\, a chosen family. In the talk at Malmö Konsthall we will reminisce about such stories\, finding the threads that unite them\, attempting to build them a home once again\, elsewhere. \n\n\n\nUnicorn – Artists in Solidarity is a Malmö-based interdisciplinary group of cultural workers who organize workshops\, reading groups\, city wanderings as well as a well known artistic residency. Its members\, who varied throughout the years\, are brought together by their belief in art as a tool for social change\, reparation\, and community-making. \n\n\n\n\n“In a picture taken by Shitou on August 2\, 2008\, on a hot summer afternoon\, I am holding my naked baby\, while mingling with lesbian artist couple Shitou and Mingming at their home in the eastern outskirts of Beijing. For me\, it was a rare social moment while under surveillance and occasional house arrest\, which defined my life as a rights activist in the 2000s. Interactions with members of the queer/artist community occurred through the friendships we forged. I felt at ease\, loved\, and cared for in Shitou and Mingming’s home. These interactions have helped me gradually recover myself in the face of soft and relational state repression.” \nJinyan Zeng\, “Queering Community. Affect of Visuality in the Sinosphere”\, 2023\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Artist talkWhen: Thursday 23.11\, 18:30–20:00Var: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNo registration needed\, admission free \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe conversation takes place as an event during Förbjuden kulturvecka. More about Förbjuden kulturvecka (in Swedish). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShitou & Mingming\nShitou (born 1969) is a Chinese activist\, performer\, filmmaker\, multimedia artist\, and queer icon. She has been active in the Chinese gay scene since the 1990s and was the first lesbian to come out on Chinese television. After starring in the lesbian-themed film “Fish and Elephant”\, Shitou directed several films\, many in collaboration with her life partner\, Mingming: “Dyke March” (2002)\, “Women Fifty Minutes” (2006) and “We Are Here” (2015). She is one of the initiators of the China Queer Independent Film group (CQIF\, 2008). \n\n\n\n\nRamona Dima & Simona Dumitriu\nRamona Dima is a researcher in gender and queer studies specialized in South-Eastern Europe. Simona Dumitriu is an art producer\, writer and curator. \n\n\n\n\nJinyan Zeng\nJinyan Zeng is a filmmaker and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University. Her research focuses on gender and sexuality\, culture and politics\, intellectual identity and social activism\, as well as ethnicity\, with particular emphasis on China.
