SUMMARY:Performance with Ingela Ihrman: The Giant Clam
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIngela Ihrman\, The Giant Clam – The Inner Ocean. Photo: Helene Toresdotter\n\n\nPerformance with Ingela Ihrman: The Giant Clam\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman – Frutti di Mare – is an exhibition where the artist in her works examines the human being’s complicated relationship to herself and other living beings. By wearing her sculptural costumes\, she seeks herself in other existences – in the passion flower\, the giant otter\, the fir cone or the mussel – and uses humor as a tool to explore what it means to be someone\, or something. The performance The Giant Clam is now being staged for the second time after the premiere in connection with her exhibition at Moderna Museet Malmö 2020. \n\n\n\nThe Inner Ocean: The Giant Clam is a reading performance that last time took place in Ingela Ihrman´s apartment in the residential area Seved in southern Malmö in 2020. Dressed in a giant mussel mantle made of blue silk fabric\, acrylic paint and various kinds of plastic\, she laid in her bathtub while reading texts from Seaweedsbladet # 1 – a newspaper she made in 2017 that was distributed to 3500 households in Seved. \n\n\n\n\nThere is a membrane between the internal organs of a giant clam and the hard calcareous shell. The membrane is called the mantle and it’s here – between the hard that encloses the soft\, pearls evolve. When I wear the mantle\, my body becomes the soft interior of the mussel and the bathtub becomes the hard shell. The apartment’s concrete walls forms the structure that the clam reside in. \nIngela Ihrman\n\n\n\nThe fall exhibition at Malmö Konsthall is the largest presentation to date of the internationally recognized Swedish artist Ingela Ihrman. SUMMARY:Performance with Ingela Ihrman: The Passion Flower
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nIngela Ihrman\, The Passion Flower. Performance at Wellcome Collection in London 2022.\n\n\nPerformance with Ingela Ihrman: The Passion Flower\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman – Frutti di Mare – is a performance-oriented exhibition where the artist in her works examines the human being’s complicated relationship to herself and other living beings. By wearing her sculptural costumes\, she seeks herself in other existences – in the passion flower\, the giant otter\, the fir cone or the oil bird – and uses humor as a tool to explore human shortcomings and emotions. The performance The Passion Flower stages the blooming and pollination of the blue passion flower. \n\n\n\nIngela Ihrman’s performances raise complex questions surrounding belonging\, identity\, origin and reproduction. When the body is concealed\, the objectifying gaze is redirected\, and questions who is really watching whom\, and how we relate to each other. \n\n\n\nThe Passion Flower is part of the work series The Inner Sea. The audience is offered to step into the roles of hummingbirds or butterflies that have come to pollinate the flower. As in all of Ihrman’s performances\, the figures behave in their characteristic and idiosyncratic ways – they emit scents\, excrete fluids\, give birth\, feed and reproduce. \n\n\n\nThe fall exhibition at Malmö Konsthall is the largest presentation to date of the internationally recognized Swedish artist Ingela Ihrman. Welcome to the opening of Malmö Konsthall’s big autumn exhibition on September 29 at 19. \n\n\n\nFor Ingela Ihrman\, social relations\, scientific facts and personal experiences function as starting points for artistic exploration. The works in the exhibition refer to modern society and humankind’s complicated relationship with itself and other living beings. SUMMARY:Woman Life Freedom: Together we create the weaver of resistance
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nOn the anniversary of the murder of Jina (Mahsa) Amini\, we gather in solidarity with the victims of violence and create a protest banner.\n\n\nWoman Life Freedom: Together we create the weaver of resistance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNearly a year has passed since the state-sanctioned murder of Jina (Mahsa) Amini\, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman – the murder that ignited the Jin\, Jiyan\, Azadi revolution. Feminists for Jina (Sweden) invites you to a workshop at Malmö Konsthall where we share thoughts\, concerns\, and hopes as we collectively create a protest banner – a symbol of solidarity\, protest\, and remembrance.\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe murder of Jina (Mahsa) Amini sparked a widespread uprising where women\, queers\, transgender individuals\, and other oppressed groups acted as vanguards for the Jin Jiyan Azadi revolution – a struggle that continues today. Feminists for Jina (Sweden) welcome everyone striving for a world where gender\, sexuality\, class\, nationality\, ethnicity\, and religion are not grounds for oppression\, to a workshop and a day filled with solidarity at Malmö Konsthall. During the workshop\, we will engage in discussions\, watch a documentary\, listen to presentations\, read letters and messages from Iran\, and enjoy live music\, all while collectively creating a protest banner through painting\, sewing\, and writing. \n\n\n\nThe workshop invites all\, regardless of identity and background\, to participate. Whether you’re an experienced artist or simply passionate about supporting women’s rights\, you can contribute to a struggle that transcends borders. Using the banner as our canvas\, we will blend colors\, ideas\, emotions\, and stories that reflect the diversity and strength of the global community behind Jin\, Jiyan\, Azadi. We will provide images and slogans for screen printing on fabric – feel free to bring your own t-shirts and/or cloth bags. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\n11:00 Workshop opens11:15 Welcome speech11:45 Text by Asma Balouch (activist) read by the organizers12:00 Voices of Resistance – PEN Malmö reads texts from Iran13:00 Lecture by Azar Mahloujian (author)13:45 Lecture by Fataneh Farahani (professor of ethnology) \n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n\n14:15 Live music with Maryam Javidmehr (musician)14:30 Lecture by Kaveh Kermanshahi (activist)15:15 Lecture by Diana Mulinari (professor of gender studies)16:00 Lecture by Samira Moatazedi (author)16:30 Voices of Resistance – PEN Malmö reads texts from Iran16:45 Closing conversation \n\n\n\nThe program is organized by Feminists for Jina (Sweden) in collaboration with Malmö Art Hall\, PEN Malmö\, ABF Malmö\, and KKV Graphics in Malmö. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: WorkshopWhen: Sat 2.9 at 11–17Where: The Workshop \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance

SUMMARY:Consert & book release: Ann Rosén
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nAnn Rosén performing Drawing Sessions. \n\n\n\n\nConsert & book release: Ann Rosén\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome to the concert and release evening for Ann Rosén’s book Recycling the Work Process. The book contains a graphic score\, texts and Rosén’s own pictures that help the reader to understand and interpret the graphic score. Musicians Anna Lindal (violin) and Lise-Lotte Norelius (electronics) play parts of the score on the release. \n\n\n\nThe score in Recycling the Work Process: A Composition in Three Movements for Instruments by Choice is a description — a way of conveying a feeling and an experience — of Rosén’s forty-two-year artistic process. Based on works\, projects and time periods\, Rosén has created symbols that she uses in the composition to indicate different types of playing styles\, free to interpret: Resonance\, Accelerando full stop\, Back and forth\, Change direction\, Noise\, Mute and Resistance. The book also contains essays by composer Bennett Hogg (UK)\, artist Gunnel Pettersson (SE)\, and music journalist Julian Cowley (UK). The book is sold at the release price of SEK 350 during the evening. \n\n\n\nAnn Rosén (born 1956) is a composer\, musician and visual artist who began her career in the visual arts in the 1980s with interactive\, intelligent and intriguing works. Since the 1990s\, her artistic focus has been on music and sound art\, and Rosén has created more than 100 original works. Rosén’s art revolves around the exploration of interpersonal communication; how we can understand ourselves in relation to the outside world and the barriers that can arise between us and others. Her work has been presented at\, among other places\, the Royal Swedish Opera\, Moderna Museet in Stockholm and The Southbank Centre in London. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Consert & book releaseWhen: Wed 30.8 at 18VWhere: C-salen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdmission free

SUMMARY:Performance with Roman Signer
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nRoman Signer. Wasserinstallation\, 1999. Courtesy Bonnefantenmuseum\, Maastricht. Photo: Peter Cox.\n\n\n\n\nPerformance with Roman Signer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoman Signer’s works often appear in public space\, both as a result of the artist’s engagement with rivers and streams\, bridges and buildings but also in the form of public actions. During the first day of the exhibition\, Roman Signer performs a performance when he activates the work Wasserinstallation (Water installation). The activation lasts about five minutes and is followed by a guided tour (in Swedish). \n\n\n\nWater is a leitmotiv in Roman Signer’s life and work. It appears in a great many guises: as a rhythmic element\, a structuring principle or an all-destroying force. Signer himself used to embark on strenuous kayak trips in isolated mountainous areas\, until\, one day\, one of his friends failed to return from such a trip. The kayak has been a recurring element in his work ever since. Wasserinstallation creates a vacuum where the beginning and end of an imaginary journey converge. In this domain of silence\, meanings flow into one another effortlessly\, without ever taking definite shape. \n\n\n\nThe eight-armed water basin entitled Wasserinstallation was designed by the artist in 1999. As a one-off event on June 30\, 1999\, Signer took a seat in the kayak and navigated the eight channels. At Malmö Konsthall\, he activates the work again. The activation is followed by a guided tour of the exhibition lasting approximately 45 minutes. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: PerformanceWhen: Sat 3.6 at 14–14.05Where: Main exhibition hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance

Photo: Marek Rogowiec.\n\n\n\n\nRoman Signer: Opening & summer party\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMalmö Konsthall opens its summer exhibition with Roman Signer with a combined opening and summer party on Friday\, June 2 at 19. Welcome to an evening of art\, performance and music. Restaurant SMAK’s bar is open all evening. \n\n\n\nIn a career spanning over fifty years\, Roman Signer has redefined what sculpture can be by working with materials in various time-based processes. Signer’s work has come to represent a distinct style within the genre of sculpture\, and he is now considered one of the leading representatives of process and conceptual art. This exhibition at Malmö Konsthall is Signer’s first major solo exhibition in Sweden and Scandinavia. Read more about the exhibition here. \n\n\n\nCo-host of the party is the art and culture association PLX\, which is responsible for the program. Since 2006\, PLX has created performances\, installations and festivals both in Sweden and internationally\, and annually organizes the esteemed PLX festival in the Blekinge archipelago. \n\n\n\nProgramme \n\n\n\n19–21 Opening in the presence of the artist Roman SignerWelcome speeches & introduction by Mats Stjernstedt\, Director of Malmö Konsthall\, and Inger Lindstedt\, Chair of The Society for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Green Parks in Malmö. Roman Signer activates the work Sandsäule (Column of Sand\, 2008). \n\n\n\n21–00 Music\, performance & barThe exhibition hall closes at 9 p.m. and the party continues in restaurant SMAK and in the courtyard until midnight. Music & performance with Francesca Burattelli\, Richard Krantz and others. \n\n\n\nItalian-born Francesca Burattelli has established herself on the Danish music and art scene in recent years with her distinctive experimental pop music-performances. Burattelli’s unique vocals are the mainstay of her electronic universe\, which embraces pop\, rap and orchestral elements. \n\n\n\nThe Swedish artist Richard Krantz is interested in language\, loneliness and humor. He often works with ideas that spring from universal and personal everyday considerations and take the form of absurd performances\, paradoxical text works and large-scale sculptures that could be taken from “real life”. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition at Malmö Konsthall is supported by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia\, Kanton St.Gallen Kulturförderung and The Society for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Green Parks in Malmö. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Opening & summer partyWhen: Fri 2.6 at 19Where: The exhibition space & Restaurant SMAK \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDrop in\, free entrance

SUMMARY:Glömskans arkiv: Film screening & talk: Legal forum on hate crimes
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\n\n\nImage from the Legal Forum for Hate Crimes in September 2022\n\n\n\n\nGlömskans arkiv: Film screening & talk: Legal forum on hate crimes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the work with Glömskans arkiv (The Archive of Forgetting)\, Amfi organized a Legal Forum on hate crimes in collaboration with Civil Right Defenders in the fall of 2022. The purpose of the forum was to examine the rules and limits that the law sets in relation to racist violence. The legal forum was filmed and we are now showing an excerpt followed by a conversation with Malcolm Jallow\, Member of Parliament (V)\, Kamal Masri\, who was one of serial killer Peter Mang’s victims\, and journalist Shora Esmailian. The programme is in Swedish. \n\n\n\nDuring the forum\, a review was made of the rule on increasing penalties due to hate crimes and whether hate crimes are invoked to the extent that demands can be made in Swedish courts today. Representatives from the various bodies of the judiciary participated. The police agency\, the prosecutor’s office\, lawyers and the judiciary were represented by Mikael Westerlund (lawyer)\, Petra Stenkula (police chief in Malmö)\, Thed Adelswärd (judge) and Mathias Larsson (prosecutor at the South Skåne Public Prosecutor’s Chamber). SUMMARY:Black (Counter)Gravity: An epilogue to FLIGHT
DESCRIPTION:Start\nEvents\n\n \n \n\nFrida Orupabo\, Girl On Horse\, 2021. Courtesy of Frida Orupabo and Galerie Nordenhake.\n\n\nBlack (Counter)Gravity: An epilogue to FLIGHT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat happens when we sift through history and its dark archives? FLIGHT (Kudzanai Chiurai | Frida Orupabo | Eric Magassa) is an exhibition that grapples with history; its tensions and its freedoms. The programme evening that concludes the exhibition offers a listening session directed by the artist Santiago Mostyn\, a talk with Jonelle Twum\, Nina Cramer & Tawanda Appiah\, and a film screening of Kudzanai Chiurai’s film We Live in Silence. The evening ends with more music and a celebration of FLIGHT. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this epilogue to the exhibition\, we meet within the contentious archive. Inspired by Tina Campt’s essay contribution to the exhibition catalogue of FLIGHT\, Black (Counter)Gravity: A Soliloquy on Flight\, we attempt to unsettle the state of oblivion by bringing Black counter narratives to the surface. In this process we acknowledge the tensions that rise when we summon history. The discomfort of encountering the dead and simultaneously the potential that comes with purposeful exhumation. We propose collective responsibility in dealing with the violence that comes with the past. Black (Counter)Gravity: An epilogue to FLIGHT offers a speculative site for a multiplicity of knowledge and affects that the archive holds and offers us. \n\n\n\nThe event starts off with a listening session by the artist Santiago Mostyn\, who will select vinyls and recordings from The Library of Things We Forgot to Remember and beyond. After that we will commune for a conversation titled On Archival Experiments with Jonelle Twum\, Nina Cramer and Tawanda Appiah. From there on we will watch Kudzanai Chiurai’s film We Live in Silence: Chapters 1-7 (2017). The evening will end with more music and a celebration of FLIGHT. \n\n\n\nThe programme is curated and organised by Tawanda Appiah and Jonelle Twum. \n\n\n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18.00–18.10: Introduction by Tawanda Appiah\, Jonelle Twum & Mats Stjernstedt18.10–18.40: Listening session with Santiago Mostyn (Part I) 18.40–19.30: On Archival Experiments. A conversation with artist and founder of Black Archives Sweden\, Jonelle Twum\, and art historian Nina Cramer\, moderated by Tawanda Appiahh. Break19.45 till 20.50: Film Screening: We Live in Silence: Chapters 1-7 (2017) by Kudzanai Chiurai20.50: Listening session with Santiago Mostyn (Part II). The exhibition hall closes. 22.00: The End \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInformation\n\n\n\nWhat: Event\nWhen: Wed 5.4 at 6–10pm\nWhere: The Exhibition Hall \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDrop in\, admission free \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJonelle Twum\nJonelle Twum is filmmaker\, researcher and cultural producer who explores various ranges of questions through the perspectives and with the narratives of minor/disregarded/unacknowledged figures from a Black feminist perspective. Jonelle is also the founder and artistic director of Black Archives Sweden. \n\n\n\n\nSantiago Mostyn\nSantiago Mostyn (b. 1981\, San Francisco) is an artist whose practice foregrounds narrative entanglements in pursuit of new understandings of place\, both in a cultural and psychic sense. Mostyn has long been interested in the interplay of music\, narrative and the embodied self\, with works manifesting as films\, exhibitions and curatorial projects. \n\n\n\n\nNina Cramer\nNina Cramer is a PhD candidate at the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Arts and Cultural Studies. Her research examines contemporary artistic practices and discourses of the African Diaspora in Denmark drawing on frameworks from Black Studies and queer feminist art history. Her PhD project is part of the research network The Art of Nordic Colonialism which brings together scholars\, curators\, and artists working on art and visual culture related to Nordic colonial projects in the Caribbean\, West Africa\, India\, Greenland\, Iceland\, and Sápmi. Since 2017 she has been a member of the decolonial feminist collective Marronage that uses a multitude of strategies to critique the ongoing effects of Danish coloniality. \n\n\n\n\nTawanda Appiah\nTawanda Appiah is a Zimbabwean curator\, writer and researcher based in Malmö\, Sweden. His research-centred practice often revisits history to make sense of the contemporary milieu. He is the incoming curator at Skånes konstförening and a part of Njelele Art Station\, and previously held the position of Curator of Education & Public Programming at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. \n\n\n\n\nFilm: We Live in Silence: Chapters 1–7\nThe work takes Mauritanian filmmaker Med Hondo’s critically acclaimed 1967 drama Soleil Ô as its starting point\, responding\, in particular\, to the colonial mindset encapsulated in the following line from the film: \n\n\n\n‘It’s crucial to be able to select individuals capable of speaking as we do\, capable of thinking as we do\, capable of retaining\, of absorbing\, yes absorbing words as we do and above all giving them the same meaning\, and so there’ll soon be millions of white-washed blacks\, white-washed and economically enslaved’. \n\n\n\nIn We Live in Silence\, Chiurai dissects the film through similitude\, recreating scenes intercut with reimagined scenes from previous video works by Chiurai (Iyeza and Moyo) to stage speculative fictions and futures that reject this notion that African migrants are to think\, speak and understand language like their colonizers.
